Zerolife Episode 38 - 2nd October 2014

• October 2nd, 2014

In this month's episode, Mark and Lewis discuss preserving old consoles, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent and Magic: The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers.

  • First of all, and this may just be hanging out with Mark too long, I want to apologise for all the clinking glass sounds in this episode. That was me. Note to self: Thoroughly hydrate before next recording session.

  • Follow That Bird is on YouTube, although it does cost £2.49, so I have made a playlist of videos from it to give you a taste before you buy, because I'm nice.

  • They mostly come at night... mostly”

  • For all that we give him stick in this episode, Lance Henriksen is really a great actor – I'd recommend checking out the TV show Millenium if you're not familiar with him.

  • Here's a shout out to Mark's favourite nerd-den... err, games shop.

  • This comic is a pretty good introduction to Magic.

Zerolife Episode 37 - September 4th 2014

• September 4th, 2014

In this episode Mark and Lewis discuss journalistic ethics, Shadow Complex, Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Rayman Legends.

  • Firstly! We now have a schedule, just like we promised! From now on, ZeroLife will be coming to you on the first Thursday of every month!

  • Here's the John Oliver piece I referred to. If you don't get Last Week Tonight, it's well worth subscribing to the YouTube channel.

  • The third game I bought, which I forgot to mention, is GoldenEye 007: Rogue Agent... for the DS. Yes, I think I do hate myself.

  • Rap Critic's analysis of Anaconda is pretty much spot on if you ask me.

  • You guys, the acting in Red Alert 2 is just so GOOD... BAD... GOOD... SOMETHING!

  • Just for comparison: Tim Curry in The Worst Witch is about on par with his performance in Red Alert 3, and it's still not as awesome as Nicholas Worth in Red Alert 2. Think about THAT.

  • Rayman's Eye Of The Tiger level is kinda hypnotic, you guys.

Thanks for listening everybody, remember to like us on Facebook and subscribe on iTunes and we'll be back next month!

Zerolife Episode 36 - July 21st 2014

• July 21st, 2014

In this episode, Mark and Lewis discuss Plants vs Zombies 2, Age of Mythology, Donkey Kong Land, why EA is just the worst and our first ever BO-BO-BONUS GAME: Rogue Legacy.

  • If you want to see how good a boxer MJ could have been, here's a look.

  • Here's an insightful look at just why EVERYONE hates EA.

  • Check out Nintendo's awesome E3 press conference.

  • A history of Rare, and why they were the best development house on the planet for a while in the 90s.

  • … I may have changed my mind on the Donkey Kong Country TV show. This looks pretty sweet.

  • Wikipedia has a decent primer on the Roguelike genre.

And please remember to subscribe, rate and review us on iTunes, like us on Facebook and follow Mark on Twitter.

Zerolife Episode 35 - July 4th 2014

• July 4th, 2014

In this episode, Mark and the returning Gavin discuss Dark Souls II, Bayonetta, Goat Simulator and sine waves that looks like penises.

  • For those who like facts, Bayonetta was released in 2009, four and a half years ago.

  • With advertising like this how did the Dreamcast fail?

  • Oh, this looks like a pretty good answer. Yep, losing money on every console sold won't do you any good.

  • Mark wasn't lying about the noises new Dark Souls players make

  • I feel the notes are a little YouTube heavy this episode, but at least this video is both educational and promotes equality and tolerance!

  • Since he gets a bit annoyed about it, we should probably note that the joke about Pac-Man was written by Marcus Brigstocke

And we'll back with you soon! Remember to subscribe and review on iTunes and like us on Facebook!

Zerolife Episode 34 - May 31st 2014

• May 30th, 2014

This episode, Lewis and Mark discuss Tomb Raider (2013), Yoshi's Island, Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America by Jeff Ryan and the Berlin Video Games Museum.

  • If you've never seen the amazing video for “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-A-Lot, you really should. It's about as over the top as the 90s gets.

  • If you're interested in reading the Dark Horse Tomb Raider comic, you can check it out at your local comic shop or get it from Dark Horse's website or their iOS or Android app. I've not read it myself, but Gail Simone is awesome, so it should be pretty rad.

  • If you want to add some more motion sickness to your life, check out the “Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy” level from Yoshi's Island!

  • Am I going to use a throw-away reference to Rod Stewart as an excuse to post one of the most bizarre songs from his back catalogue? Damn right!

  • The Berlin Computerspielemuseum – ironically on Karl Marx Alley!

  • The Duct Tape Mod for Doom 3 – the console special edition came with this (or possibly an in-house version) pre-installed, incidentally.

We'll be back soon, and do check us out on Facebook and iTunes!

Zerolife Episode 33 - April 26th 2014

• April 26th, 2014

In  this episode, Mark and Gavin discuss Rollercoaster Tycoon 4, remakes, Dishonored, The Banner Saga and Jet Set Radio.

First off, massive apologies for the delays in getting this episode to you. I had to move house just after recording, which distracted me for quite some time. On the plus side, I have now reconnected my SNES to my TV.

Holy Poop, it’s NOT only Mark who still plays Rollercoaster Tycoon!

You can check out The Jimquisition here.

It's not the game Mark was talking about but there is a video game version of Tommy Wiseau's The Room. I cannot recommend it enough.

In case you missed it (you lucky, lucky bastards), here's a good summary of the many problems with Rob Zombie's Halloween.

The original Oregon Trail (with plenty of dysentery) can be downloaded here. In keeping with the theme of the episode, there has recently been a remake for mobile devices but I won’t be linking to that.

In case you are too cheap/poor to shell out 74p, you can listen to the Jet Set Radio soundtrack on YouTube

Apologies again for the delay! Check us out on Facebook, and subscribe, rate and review on iTunes!

Zerolife Episode 32 - February 24th 2014

• February 25th, 2014

In this episode, Gavin and Mark discuss Bioshock Infinite, Professor Leyton and the Curious Village, Viewtiful Joe, Nintendo's financial future and Shaun Of The Dead Lego t-shirts.

  • Patrick Klepik from the brilliantly/terribly named “Bombin' The A.M. With the Scoops and the Wolf” podcast provided that insightful financial analysis.

  • In case you (like me), had missed out on the details of the AVGN movie, here's a timeline of progress on the production.

  • IT'S JUST “ALEX KIDD” GUYS. There's no “the”. We've been over this.

  • Yianni is a great comedian, who I had the pleasure of seeing at the Edinburgh Festival a couple of years ago. Check out his website

  • If you want to check out Dear Esther for yourself, it's available on Steam or you can visit its website here

  • Do check out our Facebook page, before it becomes completely irrelevant, and subscribe on iTunes so you never miss an episode.

We'll be back soon, hopefully with some more exciting show notes.

(They're all robots.)

  • Jason!
