Zerolife Episode 43 - 5th March 2015

Mark and Lewis are back with a new episode – and, despite Mark's pessimism last episode, we are back on schedule! This month, we are talking about Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, Streets of Rage, more on why DLC is the devil and even a little bit on Bejewelled 3!

  • The TVTropes page on 40k is both a good introduction to the game and a great read in and of itself

  • Pictured: NOT a Judge Dredd knock-off!

  • As promised: The Space Hulk (1993) intro sequence

  • Fit Finlay looking the opposite of good in WCW.

  • Not only are there Cat Pokemon, one was the star of the first movie!

  • Behold, Ash, the gay stereotype Sega removed from Streets of Rage 3 for the European and American releases. I can't even...

  • For more context on why Mark smoked oregano, check out some Spaced. You might not understand his thought process, but you will get some laughs!

Many thanks for listening, we'll be back next month! In the mean time, please like us on Facebook and subscribe and review us on iTunes!

• January 8th, 2015

Mark, Gavin and Lewis are back together again for our Game of the Year Show 2015! As well as ranking the best games we they first played this year, we will also be inducting a new game into out hallowed Hall of Fame!

  • Turns out the Chris Kamara ad I was talking about isn't online, so here's a link to GambleAware instead. Don't gamble away your kids.

  • As Gav promised, Bam Bam Bigelow breaks physics! He has no need for your puny gravity!

  • And in topical dead wrestler news, the ECW Zombie has passed away two days before we posted this podcast. RIP.

  • Despite introducing BrassEye to the podcast, Mark failed to recognise one of its greatest sketches – "Goods Aids; Bad Aids". For shame!

  • The future of Scottish football?

  • Honey Badger Don't Care!

  • THIS is what Gavin got so excited about in GTA. Heaven Help The Man indeed.

  • Amazingly, Slamball is still around today.

Our final Game Of The Year rankings -

  • Lewis: 3. WWE 2K15; 2. Tabletop Simulator; 1. Kingdom Rush: Origins

  • Mark: 3. Jazz Punk; 2. Dark Souls 2: Old Crown Trilogy; 1. Rogue Legacy

  • Gavin: 3. The Stanley Parable; 2. The Walking Dead: Season 2 ; 1. GTA V

Zerolife Episode 40 - 4th December 2014 [Reupload]

• December 9th, 2014

In this week's episode, the full team is together as Mark, Gavin and Lewis discuss Deus Ex: Human Revolution, Fallout: New Vegas (again), roleplaying in RPGs, Mafia II and answer listener questions.

  • If you aren't as old and decrepit as the team, this is the song Gav was... “singing” at the start of the show.

  • If you want to see Mark's vision of horror (but with jokes), Futurama has you covered.

  • For the record, the boss battles in Deus Ex were indeed made by a different team to the rest of the game.

  • The Escapist provide a very good explanation as to how Uwe Boll is allowed to keep making movies.

  • The behind the scenes story of the Super Mario Brothers movie is a lot more entertaining than the film itself.

  • If you want to hear Mark and Gav discuss No One Lives Forever 2, it was in our third episode.

  • Thanks to everyone who submitted questions!

Many thanks for listening, we'll be back next month! In the mean time, please like us on Facebook and subscribe and review us on iTunes!

Zerolife Episode 39 - 6th November 2014

• November 6th, 2014

In this episode, Mark and Gavin discuss The Stanley Parable, Mark of the Ninja and Tabletop Simulator.

  • Despite Gavin's best efforts to ignore it, it would appear that our friend Turk from Arm Champs II has struck again!

  • For those interested, here is a good description of the Mile High Club Achievement.

  • Mark makes our time at uni sound so tame. What he doesn't mention is that we were drinking this  at the time. Well, that might have just been me. Improved Animal Crossing immensely though.

  • Quick poll: Which is the better comparison to the voice acting in Mark of the NinjaKung Pow or Kai En Tai?

  • This video perfectly encapsulates the true sandbox nature of Tabletop Simulator. Just a shame it doesn't end with a table flip.

  • Cuthbert the cat is seriously bad ass. He was integral to our victory over some slavers!

Thanks for listening, we'll be back next month! In the mean time, please like us on Facebook and subscribe and review us on iTunes!

Zerolife Episode 38 - 2nd October 2014

• October 2nd, 2014

In this month's episode, Mark and Lewis discuss preserving old consoles, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Goldeneye: Rogue Agent and Magic: The Gathering: Duels of the Planeswalkers.

  • First of all, and this may just be hanging out with Mark too long, I want to apologise for all the clinking glass sounds in this episode. That was me. Note to self: Thoroughly hydrate before next recording session.

  • Follow That Bird is on YouTube, although it does cost £2.49, so I have made a playlist of videos from it to give you a taste before you buy, because I'm nice.

  • They mostly come at night... mostly”

  • For all that we give him stick in this episode, Lance Henriksen is really a great actor – I'd recommend checking out the TV show Millenium if you're not familiar with him.

  • Here's a shout out to Mark's favourite nerd-den... err, games shop.

  • This comic is a pretty good introduction to Magic.

Thanks for listening everybody, remember to like us on Facebook and subscribe on iTunes and we'll be back next month!

Zerolife Episode 37 - September 4th 2014

• September 4th, 2014

In this episode Mark and Lewis discuss journalistic ethics, Shadow Complex, Command and Conquer: Red Alert 2 and Rayman Legends.

  • Firstly! We now have a schedule, just like we promised! From now on, ZeroLife will be coming to you on the first Thursday of every month!

  • Here's the John Oliver piece I referred to. If you don't get Last Week Tonight, it's well worth subscribing to the YouTube channel.

  • The third game I bought, which I forgot to mention, is GoldenEye 007: Rogue Agent... for the DS. Yes, I think I do hate myself.

  • Rap Critic's analysis of Anaconda is pretty much spot on if you ask me.

  • You guys, the acting in Red Alert 2 is just so GOOD... BAD... GOOD... SOMETHING!

  • Just for comparison: Tim Curry in The Worst Witch is about on par with his performance in Red Alert 3, and it's still not as awesome as Nicholas Worth in Red Alert 2. Think about THAT.

  • Rayman's Eye Of The Tiger level is kinda hypnotic, you guys.

Zerolife Episode 36 - July 21st 2014

• July 21st, 2014

In this episode, Mark and Lewis discuss Plants vs Zombies 2, Age of Mythology, Donkey Kong Land, why EA is just the worst and our first ever BO-BO-BONUS GAME: Rogue Legacy.

  • If you want to see how good a boxer MJ could have been, here's a look.

  • Here's an insightful look at just why EVERYONE hates EA.

  • Check out Nintendo's awesome E3 press conference.

  • A history of Rare, and why they were the best development house on the planet for a while in the 90s.

  • … I may have changed my mind on the Donkey Kong Country TV show. This looks pretty sweet.

  • Wikipedia has a decent primer on the Roguelike genre.

Zerolife Episode 35 - July 4th 2014

• July 4th, 2014

In this episode, Mark and the returning Gavin discuss Dark Souls II, Bayonetta, Goat Simulator and sine waves that looks like penises.

  • For those who like facts, Bayonetta was released in 2009, four and a half years ago.

  • With advertising like this how did the Dreamcast fail?

  • Oh, this looks like a pretty good answer. Yep, losing money on every console sold won't do you any good.

  • Mark wasn't lying about the noises new Dark Souls players make

  • I feel the notes are a little YouTube heavy this episode, but at least this video is both educational and promotes equality and tolerance!

  • Since he gets a bit annoyed about it, we should probably note that the joke about Pac-Man was written by Marcus Brigstocke

And we'll back with you soon! Remember to subscribe and review on iTunes and like us on Facebook!

Zerolife Episode 34 - May 31st 2014

• May 30th, 2014

This episode, Lewis and Mark discuss Tomb Raider (2013), Yoshi's Island, Super Mario: How Nintendo Conquered America by Jeff Ryan and the Berlin Video Games Museum.

  • If you've never seen the amazing video for “Baby Got Back” by Sir Mix-A-Lot, you really should. It's about as over the top as the 90s gets.

  • If you're interested in reading the Dark Horse Tomb Raider comic, you can check it out at your local comic shop or get it from Dark Horse's website or their iOS or Android app. I've not read it myself, but Gail Simone is awesome, so it should be pretty rad.

  • If you want to add some more motion sickness to your life, check out the “Touch Fuzzy, Get Dizzy” level from Yoshi's Island!

  • Am I going to use a throw-away reference to Rod Stewart as an excuse to post one of the most bizarre songs from his back catalogue? Damn right!

  • The Berlin Computerspielemuseum – ironically on Karl Marx Alley!

  • The Duct Tape Mod for Doom 3 – the console special edition came with this (or possibly an in-house version) pre-installed, incidentally.

We'll be back soon, and do check us out on Facebook and iTunes!
